Quick Explanation of the Game Mechanics
This is a very simple and quick explanation of the world of LoT for those that just don't have time to read the guide. While this is a good way to get a fast start with minimal reading, you will want to read other parts of the guide for tips and a better understanding of how LoT works when you have the time. There are many links in the Left Navigation Menu. The ones you need to concentrate on when building your kingdom are "Buy Land" through "Characters". That is the 6th through the 10th link on the Left Navigation Menu. If I can give you any advice, it's the old saying "Money makes the world go round". So true when it comes to LoT. If you want to be successful in the game, you need to have a good income. You need money to build on your land, explore land, train your characters (except for demons), and build military. The way to develope a strong income is by building Mines or Houses. You get taxes from your population and gold out of your mines. Both taxes and gold allow you to build troops which you will need to defend your kingdom and to attack others. TIP: I always go 40% mines in the beginning of the game. Even if you have created a population based kingdom, in the beginning, the population just will not give you enough income to build the military you need coming out of newbie mode. You can always switch to population heavy later in the game. Your power is your food. Make sure you have enough farms to support your kingdom. Not only does your population eat food, but also your military eats the food. TIP: Most people make the mistake of not building any farms while in newbie because it appears you will have enough food. If your kingdom does not start off with a good food bonus, you could run out of food before leaving newbie mode. If you run out of food, that means that your population will start to die and you won't be able to train military. Watch your "My Economy" link which is located on the Left Navigation Menu. If you at any time see things going into the negative, it means you need to build more!!! If your population is dying (in the negative), you either need more houses or you need more farms to feed your military and population. Your Arkane Tree is your research. This is a VERY important link. You will gain your new characters, economy bonuses, and spells from this link. Every hour you gain research points based on how many scholars you have. Once you have enough research points for a specific research item, it will say "ACQUIRE" next to the item. You can click on the word "acquire" to gain that research item. Each research item is called a "Node". Only certain nodes will open at a time. You have to complete the research on certain nodes in order to gain access to other nodes. View your arkane tree link which is at the right side of the screen when you are on that page. It will show you which nodes you need to complete in order to get access to new nodes. If you are interested in making a straight shot towards your other characters, you can view which nodes need to be completed to get you there. TIP: You should try to leave Newbie Mode with around 1k scholars. If you can leave with that many scholars, you will be doing great at keeping up with the rest of the game. Characters, military, and defense bonuses help defend your kingdom as well as certain spells. While some people can be successful just by concentrating on leveling their characters, a true strong kingdom needs a mixture of both good characters and decent military. TIP: While in newbie mode, you want to always train characters first, and then finish spending your money by building your kingdom and military. When training characters, you will have the option of training for 10 hours for 1 level or 24 hours for 2 levels. If you can be on every 10 hours, DEFINITELY click on the 10 hours for 1 level. You will level quicker because you will gain 2 levels in 20 hours where if you click on 2 levels right away, it takes 24 hours to complete. This is called "training your characters". While your characters are training, they will be on defense. Always try to buy max land while in Newbie Mode. A lot of people do it in groups of 24 to maximize their growth. View the "Buy Land" subtopic under Left Navigation Menu for more information on this. TIP: Monsters appear in newbie mode and are a great way to get free levels. When attacking monsters, you always need to send a character and at least 10 military units. Because of this, right away you should build a minimum of 40-60 military units so that you are able to attack the monsters when they appear.
