Yes, it happens, this is a violent game and occasionally some dastardly competitor will cast spells against your lands and people. You are not defenseless, your own spell casters will do their best to stand against these magical attacks and shield your holdings.

Character Defenses

Every Caster who is at home, even those lagged from casting their own spells, will rally to the magical defense of your empire. Your most experienced magic user will take the lead and shoulder the majority of the defenses with their weaker compatriots being less and less effective and you move down the totem pole of experience. The actual formula use is ((Caster Level * Class Multiplier)(1 / $nCount)) where nCount is the rank of the caster on defense, by level/experience. Your top caster's nCount will be 1, and if you have 5 home on defense, the weakest will be 5.

The Class Multipliers are:

• Druids = 1.1
• Shamans = 1
• Magi = 0.9
• Demon = 0.8
• Necromancer = 0.8

Example: You have 5 Shamans home on defense, levels 20, 18, 15, 12 and 10. Their nCount values will go in order of their level, the level 20 is 1, 18 is 2, 15 is 3, 12 is 4 and the level 10 is 5. and the Class multiplier for Shaman is 1.

• The level 20 caster gets (20 * 1)*(1/1) = 20% defensive value
• The level 18 caster gets (18 * 1)*(1/2) = 9% defensive value
• The level 15 caster gets (15 * 1)*(1/3) = 5% defensive value
• The level 12 caster gets (12 * 1)*(1/4) = 3% defensive value
• The level 10 caster gets (10 * 1)*(1/5) = 2% defensive value

All together, in our example, you would knock 39% (20+9+5+3+2) off of the success rate of the enemy spell caster.

Additional Defenses

Your casters can be equipped with magic items that boost their spell defense value like Rings of Protection and Cloaks of Deflection. Additionally a clan-mate who is a Druid or a Magi/Feudal can cast a war-time only spell called Sphere on your empire which increases your spell defense.
